THE VISIT BY THE DEPUTY LIEUTENANTS IN COUNTY DOWN TO ARMAGH ON TUESDAY 13TH JUNE 2018
On Tuesday 13th June 2018, a group of the Deputy Lieutenants accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant & and many of their spouses visited Armagh. The visit was as usual organised by the Vice Lord Lieutenant aided on this occasion by Dr Robert Logan DL. Unfortunately the Vice LL was unable to attend as her husband David was unwell. It was a superb trip and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We started at the Bishops Palace which are now the council offices. This is a superb building which has been very well restored. Here we were given tea, coffee & buns & met the Lord Mayor & were addressed by the CEO & the Public Relations manager. We next drove over to St Patrick's RC Cathedral which again is a huge, magnificent building & we were treated to a private tour & some beautiful organ music. Next it was lunch at the 4 vicars restaurant which was delicious. We were joined there by the LL of Armagh, The Earl of Caledon & the Countess. After lunch we went to the Robinson library, which is just next door. Again, this is a very well preserved and absolutely fascinating collection. We were addressed by the Dean, Gregory Dunstay. We finished off our day at the Armagh museum where we were shown amongst other items, historic Lord Lieutenant & Deputy Lieutenant uniforms.
