THE LORD LIEUTENANT OF COUNTY DOWN

Her Majesty the Queen's Representative in County Down

Such sad news about Her Majesty The Queen having to cancel her trip to Northern Ireland on medical advice. Her Majesty was due to visit Hillsborough today (20th October).  We wish Her a speedy recovery.

The Lord Lieutenant is Her Majesty the Queen's Representative in County Down. The current Lord Lieutenant is Gawn Rowan Hamilton & he succeeded David Lindsay, who retired on the 25th September 2021. The Lord Lieutenant is assisted by a Vice Lord Lieutenant & up to 30 Deputy Lieutenants. The Lord Lieutenant & the Deputies will each normally serve  until their 75th birthday. The Vice Lord Lieutenant automatically retires upon the appointment of a new Lord Lieutenant and we hope to announce the name of her replacement shortly.
